SHOLA BRANSON

SHOLA BRANSON

Shola Branson makes jewellery that carries the feeling of
having been unearthed as much as designed. Working from
London, he calls these pieces future artefacts: objects that
seem to belong equally to a distant past and some far-off
future. The work is heavy in the hand and satin rather than
polished, built from cartouche and architectural forms that
hold a monumental weight at a scale you can wear every
day.

He began at a small bench in his bedroom, teaching himself
to make before anything else. A period at an antique jeweller in Hatton Garden gave him the rest: handling and
cataloguing historic pieces, learning gemstones, craft, and
the long history of the trade firsthand. That set off an
education that still runs through books, archives, and
museum collections.
