My Dear Tejas

TEJAS takes its name from the original Native American word for friend—a meaning rooted in the land long before it was ever mistaken for Spanish.

At A’maree’s, we’re drawn to TEJAS for its reverence for tradition and craft. Each piece is shaped by late-1800s tannery techniques and finished by skilled Texas leather artisans who treat their work as a lifelong practice, not a trend.

These garments represent a thoughtful approach to regenerative clothing. The deer hides used were once discarded—sent to landfills or shipped overseas for processing. Today, they’re transformed locally through one of the last remaining North American tanneries, preserving a heritage that has nearly disappeared.

Because much of the process is done by hand, no two pieces are exactly alike. Natural markings (scars, texture, subtle variations) are embraced rather than erased. To us, they’re a quiet record of time, place, and purpose.

A piece from TEJAS is more than leather. It’s a nod to the past, an act of preservation, and a beautifully imperfect expression of mindful craftsmanship. Exactly the kind of story we’re proud to share at A’maree’s.
